Decorating with Stars

It doesn’t have to be Christmas time to enjoy stars. Although they do add a little festive atmosphere you can also use them on your wall in place of a picture or hang from a drawer handle for a subtle decorative touch. As with any decorative tips I give, keeping it understated is the key.

The House of Brooke have some beautiful silver stars in store. Check out the website: http://thehouseofbrooke.com.au/shopping/to-decorate/silver-stars/

Decorating with Travel Wares

I really believe in creating your own individual style in your home and anyone can be an interior decorator simply by using bits and pieces from their travels and remember their favourite memories by displaying them creatively.

Fabric is light and won’t take up much room in your suitcase. Be imaginative with your old furniture and cover an old chair in some bright fabric or use it to make a colourful throw for your lounge.

Be unique and display your travel photos on your wall. Use a mix of coloured and black & white photos stretched on canvas or perhaps a framed map of your travels.

If it makes you happy, use it. If that hand made alpaca hair rug that you bargained hard for in Bolivia brings back good memories, then go with it. The quirkier the better but keep it simple and too a minimum.

The Industrial Look

I really love the industrial look. The exposed bricks and pipes give a sense of abandonment and if you were hoping to make some use of that factory letterpress in the garage then this style may be the solution. It's all about oversized decoration as shown by the clocks and numbers used in these pictures and raw materials such as wood, animal skins and metal. Add some low hanging pendant lights and a moody dark grey shade of paint on the wall to set off metal décor and wooden furniture and you're there.
Add a touch of industrial to your home with a funky metal vase or jug such as these available from The House of Brooke http://www.thehouseofbrooke.com.au/

Yellow Goat

Although not the most telling of company names, these guys produce the most amazing lights I have ever seen. What makes it better is that not only is it a Queensland company but they are just down the road on the Goldie. These are a few of my favourites. Check out other awesome creations on their website...

Bathroom Under The Stars

There was a touch of excitement when my new friend Flic Brown showed me through her self contained bungalow built in the backyard of her Broome house. The inference was to walk from the bedroom through the bathroom door to any ordinary bathroom and this is what I came across.
Although not the best idea for the colder states, this bathroom under the stars is perfect for the steamy weather of The Kimberley's.

As an aside, Flic also creates her own collection of amazing hats and hair pieces and is currently on tour around Australia with them. Have a look at her beautiful creations and follow her travels on her blog.
